Non-members caught wearing the pin can be charged with unlawful possession, face six months in jail along with fines of $5000. Court document was filed against Nelson Lewis, 26, of Savannah for improperly wearing the congressional pin. Claiming to be Rep. Jack Kingston was not the brightest move.
The documents stated police responded to a 911 call at 1 a.m. on Nov. 17 for a reported assault. When police arrived Lewis stated he wasn't touched in the assault. Then he when on to tell police he was Rep. Jack Kingston, a Georgia Republican.
Lewis claimed not to have any identification, when asked for identification. When police identified and arrested Lewis, he told police his dead uncle who was a member of congress gave him the pin. The congressional pin in Lewis possession was verified to be authentic.
