Save for Christmas in January

M. Kaye Hash
Everyone is happy that the holidays are over but you shouldn't quite quit thinking about them yet. As the holidays roll back around, as they do every year, so many people begin to stress about coming up with the money for the gifts and events that they want to give and be involved in throughout the season. Instead of waiting, begin saving for Christmas right now, in January.

After Christmas Sales Help You Save for Christmas

Don't purchase your wrapping paper, gift bags, and such in November. Hit the after Christmas sales and stock up on what you will need for the entire year. You can even look for plain paper without holiday print that can be used for birthdays and other gifts throughout the year.

Add-on gifts, or small gifts, are often great to pick up after the holidays. Ornaments are a great add-on gift, especially if you are giving a gift card. These are also great for gift exchanges or when you need a quick gift to give to someone you didn't realize you were exchanging gifts with. You can find ornaments for as little as 25 cents after Christmas. Pick up several for the next year.

Set Up a Holiday Account at Your Bank to Save for Christmas

Many banks offer holiday accounts. These are great as they can transfer the money directly out of your bank account so you don't even have to think about it. Look at how much you spent during the holiday season and divide it between the next ten months.

Save in Any Way You Can

If you do not wish to have a holiday account at your bank, you can stash any extra money you get into your savings account as you get it. An extra paycheck, a bonus, or a tax refund can all go towards saving for Christmas.

Saving means you will be paying cash and will not have to worry about extra debt after the holidays are over. You will be thrilled that you saved up what you need once the holidays roll back around as getting rid of the financial stress of the holidays will help you deal with all the other holiday and family stress with much more ease. Don't wait until November, or even December, to come up with money for gifts for your loved ones, begin to save for Christmas in January.
