Save Your Hair for the Birds' Nests

Birds love to use hair to build their nests. Hair is bendable and the birds can use hair to bind other materials together to make a fine strong nest. The birds need to make a strong nest to raise their young in. Hair is a natural material which lasts a long time so when a bird uses hair to make a nest the hair will hold twigs and small sticks tightly together all summer. Then the birds can raise their young without their nest being blown out of a tree. The Hair is light weight so the birds can easily carry the hair up to where they are making their nest. The hair is also easy for the birds to weave into the rest of the nest.

The next time you get your hair cut try to save the hair that has been cut off of your head. Then you can take the cut off hair and just let it go into a wild area. When you let your hair go in the wind the birds will find it and make good use of the hair. They can pick up the hair and use it as a great soft nest for their baby birds.

My mom would cut my dads hair and let the hair go free outdoors afterwards. One year my mom found a bird nest that was made almost entirely of my dad's hair. It was from a small bird and the nest was perfectly made from my dad's hair. My dad got to have his hair cut and the bird had a very nice nest made from my dad's hair.
