Wedding centerpieces, flowers, catering, the venue, the dress, the rings, entertainment, wedding cars... The list never ends and must make any father of the bride cringe when it comes to the wedding of his precious daughter. It is no wonder that some couples spend over $50,000 on their wedding, and all for one day! However, it is possible to have a beautiful but affordable wedding if you are prepared to put the effort in. The easiest place to start is at the very beginning - with the wedding centerpieces.

Traditionally the centerpieces are used to frame the whole table setting during the celebratory meal after the nuptials and can make or break the elegance of the reception It is easy to make gorgeous wedding centerpieces. All you need is an hour of your time and $10. It really is that simple! Here are a few design ideas to get you started!

Tealight Wedding Centerpieces

Having tealights on the wedding tables can be extremely romantic as well as save you an awful lot of money, purely and simply because it enhances the mood. You will need three tealights per table and a plastic bowl half full of water. Simply float the tealights on top of the water and hey presto, you have a simple and effective wedding centerpiece! For added effect, try sprinkling a little glitter or a few rose petals on the water's surface.

Single Flowers

If you are having a relatively simple wedding then your wedding centerpieces could also be simple and blend in well. A long stemmed white rose in a tall vase looks beautiful but can be expensive, unless you know where to go. If you have roses in your garden then you can use those or buy a bouquet for a reasonable price. You do not even have to use roses. You could use any flower in your wedding colours. The vases are not a problem either. All you have to do is buy clay vases from a local craft store. You can purchase those for $1 each and then paint them in your wedding colours. They are ready to paint so you can customise them rather than buying them ready to use and paying $5 to $10 more for each one!

Get Crafty!

Many couples do not have traditional wedding centerpieces these days. Instead, they use their own creativity. Go to your local craft store and take a look at all of the "make your own" kits, DIY flower arrangements, general decorations and paper, card and glitter. Try out a few ideas and see what you can make. This is truly the way to save money! You can buy a basket full of wonderful craft items and make a different wedding centerpiece for each table or the same one. Either way, the wedding is completely yours and will not be too harsh on your pocket!
