Save Money on Your Electric Bills While Living in Your Apartment

Lance Esondi
Many people living in an apartment are doing so to save money because of limited income. When you have excess bills that are surprising, like a high electric bill, it can really throw your budget off. You need to be doing what you can to help cut down on that bill to help you save money and stay within your budget.

When your light bulbs burn out, try replacing them with something that burns less wattage. Lighting can be a drain on electricity. Newer bulb technology uses much less wattage than the traditional bulbs while putting out similar light. Be sure you are still turning off the lights that you aren't using for best results.

Many electronics still draw electricity even when they are turned off. This is especially true for things like televisions and sound systems. Put these on a power strip that you unplug when not in use so this electrical draw isn't happening when you don't want to be using any.

If you have control of the hot water heater and it runs on electricity, try making it a bit less hot. Most people don't run full hot water and use a mix of hot and cold. Turn down the temperature of the water and save money.

Turn the air conditioning up a few degrees. While it might feel a bit warmer at first, you will get used to it quickly. This can help save some money each month, especially during those hotter months of the year.

Keep your refrigerator and freezer full. When you have this appliance full, it tends to use less power. If you can't fill it with food, save old bottles and fill them with water to take up space. Another advantage of this, besides saving power, is that in a power outage, a full refrigerator will stay cooler longer.
