Save Money by Eliminating Wasted Money

There are dozens of ways to save money by reusing and recycling common household items. There are also thousands if not millions of dollars that could be saved if people did not overlook things.

While it may sound simple there are thousands of dollars literally being thrown into the trash each year. There are no actual dollars being thrown in the trash but there might as well be with all that is being wasted. If a dollar where to fall into the garbage most people would fish it out but the majority will gladly leave an item such as an aluminum can in the garbage without a second thought. What other areas is money being wasted in?

Utility Costs

While utilities are now considered a necessity due to the rise in electrical heating, telephones, and electronic gadgets there is often money wasted on them. Utility costs are often the largest bill after the roof over people's heads. The waste comes in when bills are higher than they should be for whatever reason. Little things like leaving lights on or letting leaks and cracks around the home go unattended can run the bill up leading to wasted money. Hot water is left running without thinking running up the power bill and in some cases the water bill.

Clothing, Accessories and Make-up

While clothing is necessary there is money wasted on it. Spending money on items that you know you will never wear is wasteful. Paying full price for something that a child will likely out grown in a few months is a waste as well. There are a number of people that buy items that look cute in the store only to get them home and discover they do not like them anymore. Often there are more accessories purchased than needed. There is no need to buy an accessory in every color, when it comes to the items you wear out a few simple pieces can be mixed and matched.

Make-up can be used until it is all gone. Combining sale prices, coupons and free sample offers can save you a lot of money. Ordering samples can help prevent spending money on items that you end up throwing away because they are not what you thought they would be. When you get something home that you liked in the store but are not fond of when you get out from under the store lights exchange it for something else.

Buying Duplicates

There is a lot of money wasted each year because of a lack of organization. This lack of organization means that things are often not found when they are needed. The inability to find items leads to duplicate purchases. The cost of the items that duplicates of are purchased can be as little as $1 but if you replace the item twenty times that is $20 wasted dollars that could have been saved.

Waste

Things such as leftover food being thrown out instead of eaten is wasted money. Money is also wasted when items are not used until they can no longer be used or larger amounts of items than needed are used. Things such as soap slivers, toothpaste and even cleaning supplies are often wasted. The toothpaste tube is not always empty just because nothing comes out; you can cut the tube and finish getting out what you paid for. A roller to ensure that the items in the home that come in tubes have been emptied as much as possible prior to cutting into them will help in the efforts to conserve.

Grocery Budgets

Groceries are a necessity although having a freezer full of frozen dinners. Ingredients are often cheaper than the finished product especially when attempting to feed a family. Investing a little time can save money.

There are a number of areas where money is wasted around the home. Taking a moment to look before you buy can save a great deal of money in the long run. Often the areas where money is wasted are not noticed until people find themselves running out of money long before the end of the month.
