Save Money on Homecoming

From Tickets to Flowers

Fall is fast approaching, and so is the homecoming dance. Every year teens get ready for the big game and then attend the big dance a day later. Homecoming can be expensive when you start to add up tickets, dinner, clothes and flowers. There are plenty of ways to cut the costs and still let your teen enjoy the night.

Tickets to the dance are usually sold through the school. If the dance is on school grounds then tickets are usually a little cheaper, compared to if the school has rented a bigger venue. Have your teen check with the homecoming committee to see if helping to sell tickets, decorate for the dance, or cleaning up afterwards will get them a discount on tickets. After all someone has to do the prep and post dance work, so maybe money can be saved on the tickets.

Dinner is another expense for the homecoming couple. Sure in past years the guy usually paid, but now days it can be split by the couple. If you have purchased an entertainment book, check for buy one get one free coupons. Also check the newspaper to see if any restaurants are offering a special on the night of the dance. If your teen is going with a group, call around to different restaurants speak to the manager about offering them a special group rate for the night. The more people you can commit to eating at a certain place, the better the chances the manager will give you a deal.

Clothing for both girls and guys can get expensive. Between the dresses, shoes, sport coats it all adds up. Start asking friends and family if they have any clothes that your son or daughter can borrow for the night. Also start checking Goodwill, Craigslist and local thrift shops early. If you find the outfit early you will have plenty of time to do any alterations or cleaning that it may need. Shoes can be purchased at local discount stores or maybe you have a pair in your closet they can borrow for the night.

Many grocery stores have a floral department. Flowers ordered at the grocery store are cheaper than if you go to the florist. Check the local flower shops and find out where you can get the best deal. Once again if you can get a certain number of couples to commit to ordering flowers at one place, they may offer you a group discount. If you are crafty then you can purchase loose flowers and make your own flowers for the couple.

Homecoming does not have to make a family or couple to go broke. Start planning for homecoming early and you will be able to save money. The couple will enjoy themselves no matter how much money you do or do not spend. Now let's hope the home team wins the game.
