Save Money Landscaping This Year

Cheap Gardening Supplies

M. Kaye Hash
As the air warms, many find themselves wandering around their winter ravaged yards and wonder how to create a beautiful yard for next to nothing. When the amount of cash in your pocket is less than you had last year, creating a yard your neighbors will envy may seem unattainable when you visit your local garden store and see how expensive garden supplies and plants can be. Instead of staring at a weedy and overgrown yard this summer, realize it is not difficult to have a cheap landscape or find cheap garden supplies as long as you go about it in the right way and think a little outside the home and garden store box.

A Cheap Landscape Can be Found Next Door

How many times have you admired the hostas lining your neighbors driveway? Instead of just gazing longingly, head on over and ask if you can have some. Many plants are easily divided or you can take clippings so you can grow the same plants in your yard. Friends, family, and neighbors are great places to start with for cheap landscape plants. Many people will gladly share their plants with you while others may be open to exchanging plants in your yard for plants in theirs.

Use What You Have For a Cheap Landscape

Sometimes the cheapest yard is just working with the plants and items you already have. Divide plants that are overgrown, such as those day lilies that are spreading outside of their alloted space, or use the rocks you keep tripping over to make a pathway or border around a flower bed.

Cheap Landscape Supplies are Better Bought Off-Season

Instead of purchasing all of your supplies in April and May, make do with what you have and keep a list of items you will need for next year. In the fall, begin shopping for your garden supplies in the clearance aisles ad end of season sales. You will be able to purchase items you need at a much cheaper price.

Visit Garage Sale and Estate Sales for Cheap Landscape Supplies

If you need supplies now and cannot wait for the end of season, visit a few garage sales and estate auctions before making a new purchase. You may find items for pennies on the dollar in excellent condition or an entire lot of garden supplies at an auction.

A cheap landscape is possible for everyone. You may find you enjoy your yard more when it doesn't cost you very much.
