Save Money: Learn How to Pinch Your Pennies

Do you want to save some money? Have the high gas prices got you down? Are the crazy weather patterns affecting your budget? If you are tight on cash and payday is too far away, learn to be conservative and pinch your pennies. Planning ahead can save not only time, but money as well. Here are some tips to help you save money.

01. Before you make a trip to the store, make a list. If you go in knowing what you want and what you have to get, you are less likely to buy unneeded items. Also, if you have to make more than one stop, you can be sure to make them all at one time, rather than making two or three trips and wasting more gas.

02. When you're low on money, don't buy expensive things for dinner. Buy hotdogs, Mac-N-Cheese, beans, etc. These are cheap, and you can get creative with them. It is also helpful to look for sales, and use coupons.

03. Buy generic. Often times, generic is just as good as name brands. If there is something you absolutely must have name brand, then go ahead and buy it, but try to stick with generic. It's cheaper and, generally, just as good.

04. Buy in bulk. It may seem like it costs more, but it will last longer, and save you money in the long run. Sam's Club is a great place to buy things in bulk.

05. Don't go to the store hungry. People tend to buy more when they are hungry. Just stick to your list. It will help save you time and money.

06. Don't keep cash in your pocket. Small purchases, such as soda, snacks, etc. add up. If you don't have that cash in your pocket, you are less likely to buy it. Use the, "if you don't need it, don't buy it" motto when going to the store - especially the gas station.

07. When going to buy gas, use your debit car to pay at the pump. This makes you less temped to pick up that soda and snacks on he run. You're going to spend enough there on gas, try not to buy anything that you do not need.

08. Carpool. With gas prices as high as they are, many people are already carpooling to work or school. It saves on the environment, as well as your bank account. Take turns in cars and paying for gas.

09. Conserve energy. Turn off lights in rooms that no one is in. Keep the lights off in the daytime. Turn off any televisions, radios, etc that are not being used. Keep your air conditioning around at least seventy-two degrees during these hot, summer months. Conserving energy will save you money.

10. Learn the art of trading. Trade movies with family and friends rather than renting them. Check out books from your local library rather than buying new ones. Find things to do at home rather than going out.

These easy pre-planning steps can have you on your way to, well, saving money. They won't make you rich, but they'll give you an extra boost. Most of all, it's important to be conscientious of the money you have and the money you are able to spend. And always be on the lookout for different ways to save yourself some money along the way. Every little bit helps!
