BUY WASHING SODA -- Most recipes you find for homemade Oxi Clean tell you to use baking soda but what you really want is washing soda! Washing soda can be found in the laundry aisle of most super stores. Arm and Hammer makes Super Washing Soda and it's in a big yellow box. If you want to see what the Arm and Hammer brand looks like click here. You can also order washing soda online. Or you can try looking for other brands in your own stores. Washing soda is very cheap to buy and it's good for many uses, not just to make Oxi Clean!
BUY HYDROGEN PEROXIDE -- You can find hydrogen peroxide in the health and beauty section of any store. It's usually in a brown bottle and comes in several sizes. It's also very cheap to buy. Buy any size you want. Peroxide is great for many uses so if you don't use it all for this Oxi Clean recipe it's good to have some leftover on hand.
BUY A SPRAY BOTTLE -- If you don't have a clean spray bottle at home you can buy one really cheap at any store. Look in the laundry section or in the cosmetics section of your local super store or drug store.
MIX YOUR INGREDIENTS -- You want to use 2 tablespoons of washing soda to 1 cup of peroxide. Pour the desired amount of peroxide in the spray bottle then add the washing soda. You can make a funnel with a piece of paper to make adding the washing soda easier. Now add the cover to the bottle and let it sit for a day. Give it a gentle shake before each use and use on any stain just like you would use Oxi Clean.
Always test your homemade oxi clean solution on a hidden area of your fabric especially if you are cleaning a spot on a carpet. Even the real oxi clean can cause what many people think is a "bleach stain" but the stain is most likely just a really clean spot on your dirty carpet! If you want your entire carpet to match the newly cleaned spot then get on your hands and knees and clean your entire carpet!
