Save Money on Meat for Your Family This Year

If you don't know or haven't noticed the prices of pigs and beef cattle are going down. You can purchase a full grown pig for around $60, give or take a little. The price of beef is going down also, if you buy an entire cow. Most people like to buy a beef cow and split it or even quarter it with other families because it is so big and too much meat to keep in one freezer. You could also cut down on the price of your meat this year by shooting a couple of deer to have venison on the table. You may think, yuck, who likes venison; however, read on to find out how to make it tastier. (You're family will love it.) Think about how nice it would be to just go to the freezer instead of having to go to the grocery store every time you needed some ground meat for a recipe like tacos or lasagna.

GET THE ANIMAL: First you will need to shop around to find the best prices on pigs or beef cattle where you live. The prices will vary, from area to area, but you should be able to find good deals on the animals to feed your family. And if you decide to get venison, all you need to buy is a doe tag, or you could shoot it on your own property and have nothing in the price of a nice mature doe for your family to eat.

PROCESS THE ANIMAL: Next, you will need to figure out how to process the meat yourself, or you will need to find a meat processor in your area that will process your pig, cow, or deer for a good price. Shop around for processing prices too, if you are going to hire someone to do it. You could even talk to some friends and possibly find a friend of a friend who knows how to process meat and will do it for a really low price for you.

VENISON PROCESSING: The best way to ground venison is to add in some canadian ham, bacon, or turkey bacon for taste. Not many people like the taste of pure ground venison; however, if you ground in some tasty meat with it, you won't believe the difference. You can then use this ground venison mix in any dish, like tacos, chili, or even simply make cheeseburgers out of it. You're family will be more likely to like the venison when it is mixed and cooked in this manner and it will save you a boat load of money on meat to put on the table. You can also cut some roasts out of a deer. Fix these roasts in a crock pot and slow cook them all day with a can of mushroom soup or a bottle of BBQ sauce for pulled venison sandwiches. You and your family will love how these roasts taste just like beef or pulled pork.
