Save Money on Your Online Retail Shipping Costs

How to Avoid Those Extra Costs when Shopping Online

Rissa Watkins
Many consumers feel bombarded by online retail shipping costs. It is disheartening to find a great deal online, only to see your savings disappear once shipping charges are added. There are ways consumers can still shop online, but avoid online retail shipping costs.

Shipping costs savings tip #1

Combine orders with friends or family. My sister and I do this quite frequently. One of us places the order on her card. The other writes a check for the purchases, plus half the shipping charges. It works great for Christmas shopping.

Shipping costs savings tip #2

Have your purchases shipped to the store. Several retailers like Bestbuy.com, Circuitcity.com and Walmart.com will allow you free shipping to your nearest store.

Shipping costs savings tip#3

Check to see if the store offers a frequent shopper card or other membership card. Amazon.com has an Amazon Prime membership which offers you free two day shipping. There is a fee, but if you make a lot of purchases the money you save in shipping fees could make it worth the cost.

Shipping costs savings tip#4

Don't pay for return shipping if you don't want your item. Many retailers offer free or cheap shipping to you, but you have to pay the full price for shipping it back. Take those purchases and sell them on ebay.com or slickdeals.net. You won't have to deal with the hassle and expense of return shipping.

Shipping costs savings tip #5

Do a Google search online to see if you can find a coupon for free shipping. Some places like slickdeals.net have an easy to search coupon database. You just enter the code when you are making your online purchases. If you can't find a coupon for free shipping, you might find one for a discount which will make up for the shipping charges.

Consumers don't have to give up shopping online because of high retail shipping costs. Try these tips to save money on the shipping costs for your future purchases. With the money you save, you can pick up a little something extra, just for you.

I always do the ship to store feature when I shop at wallyworld online... then I send someone else to go pick it up, because I wouldn't be caught dead in wally world... you can't get in and out of there in less than an hour, because it takes that long just to find a parking spot.
