The first thing that I want you to realize is that there are tons of embellishments in our environment. Not only is this going to save the environment, but it is also going to save your pocket book. What I want you to do is go on a treasure hunt through your home. You will be surprised at what is there. Here is a list of possible ideas for you. I will tell you what to do with the items afterwards.
Children's clothing
Hair clips
Safety pins
Children's books
Magazines
Ribbon
Gift bags
Cards
Recycled products with pictures on them
Sponges
Toys
The list can go on and on. After I explain what to do you will understand and your creativity will grow. Here are my ideas.
1. Why throw away a child's outfit that they have stained or outgrown when you can use the material to make ribbons or bows? Just cut the material into strips to make your own ribbon. Little girl's outfits invariably have some type of lace or ric rac on their clothing. Take if off and use it. Another thing to think about is that children's clothing usually has cute buttons and snaps. Use them. Get a jar and start collecting the buttons.
2. If you have children's books here is an idea for you. Take one of the pages that you like and copy it. You will want to have it copied onto a cardstock paper. Take it to a printer. It shouldn't cost too much.
3. Do you have leftover gift wrap or gift bags? Create hearts or shapes out of them for your cards and scrapbook pages.
4. How about miniature toys. Barbie has some great accessories. Use little purses, shoes, or dresses to add to your scrapbook. They would also go great on a card.
5. Need some color on your cards? Take a sponge and dab some paint spots onto the cards. Or cut the sponge into shapes and stamp your cards.
Here are just a few ideas. There are many more that you can create yourself. Have fun getting creative. It doesn't cost much. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish. What is also nice is that you are using items that your children have used through the years. There is no better way to do a scrapbook and have lasting memories. You can explain to them when they are older that they used that very item that you made the scrapbook out of.
