Save Money on Your Shopping Bill

Aaron Conor
Everyone has to shop for food. However, many of us spend far too much money on the food that we buy. In this article, I will be discussing different techniques for saving money at the grocery store.

First of all, don't buy brand names. Well known brands are almost always more expensive than lesser known brands. Paper towels come to mind. My father will only buy Bounty paper towels because he is convinced they are the best at cleaning up spills. While I agree that Bounty paper towels are good at what they do, I buy a lesser known brand that's about sixty percent cheaper.

Secondly, find bargain prices. This time tested strategy always brings results. Simply looking around the store and seeing what's on sale can be of great benefit to your grocery bill, in the long term. It may not save you much in the short term, but it all adds up.

Thirdly, skip the bottled water. Bottled water costs between three and six dollars, depending on how much you drink. If you simply drink from the tap, you will save yourself between fifteen and twenty bucks a month.

A fourth way of saving money at the grocery store is to simply eat cheaper food. Try Ramen noodles, they're quite good and inexpensive. I've found them for about twelve cents per pack. Another example would be Chef Boyardee. Chef Boyardee offers ravioli, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs; etc. These products can be bought for around a buck each. Not too shabby, huh?

A fifth way to save a buck, is to shop at discount stores. Walmart, Target, Costco; etc are all good examples. Personally, I shop at Walmart and Target. Between the two, Walmart is the cheapest. However, Target seems to have a nicer atmosphere to it. Costco would be best for buying in bulk.

A sixth way to save money would be to simply eat less food. Do you really need those two extra bags of chips or the extra ice cream? No, you don't.

What about coupons? Coupons can easily save you some money, and all you have to do is cut them out of the newspaper and hand them to the cashier. Or maybe print them out online. Some stores even have coupon cards that will act like coupons; the only difference is that you don't have to cut out any coupons, just hand the card to the cashier and you're done.

Finally, you could save money by shopping online. I haven't tested this method yet, but you wouldn't have to drive to the store. This would save you some gas. This is especially useful to those of you who live thirty miles from the nearest grocery store.

Saving money at the supermarket can be done. It simply takes a little willpower and some knowledge. Hopefully, this article will help you to save some money on groceries. Enjoy your shopping experience.
