Save Money by Following a Few Tips that Have Helped Others

Saving money in this economy is on the minds of most. Especially if you are providing for a family, spending less money is important.

Usually saving money is a bit easier if you are organized. Start with the coupons you ignore in your local paper. Clip these and keep them in alphabetical order or by category. Sign up for coupons online. Several sites have all you need to make a serious dent in your grocery budget.

Use coupons always! Most people are tired of hearing about the importance of coupons. However, even if you purchase one box of cereal each week with a coupon to save $1.00, you will have saved $52.00 extra by the end of the year. Not impressed? Then collect enough coupons to save $10.00 each week so you will have $520.00 at the end of the year. One important point you already should know-don't buy anything you really don't want to eat no matter how good the deal is.

Buy real food. Next to using coupons, buying real food may be the best way to save money. This means no packaged meals, canned soups or frozen dinners. Eating real food may also help you improve your health.

Save money by swapping items with family and friends. Who has a child one or two size larger than yours? Would they be willing to let you have jackets or other expensive clothing items without cost or for a small amount? Many people you may know could be selling these items at yard sales for pennies on the dollar.

Review the insurance on your car and home. Saving money on these items may be easier than you thought. If you are comfortable with a larger deductible, call your insurance company to learn how much you will save with these changes.

Save money by using free checking only. Some banks charge 5 to 10 dollars every month for the joy of having your checking account at that bank. One bank is now charging a $2.00 fee each month if you want copies of checks in your statement. Avoiding these two charges alone could save $132 each year.

Learn to groom your pets and save money. Many people groom their dogs at home on a regular basis taking them to a pro just 2 or 3 times each year. In some areas this could be a savings of $400.00 a year or more.

Agree not to eat meals away from home without a good coupon. Meals eaten away from home can put a huge dent in anyone's budget. If you can't locate buy one, get one free coupons, look for one that gives half off the second meal. Several restaurants, such as Boston Market and Denny's, offer an online newsletter that includes coupons and specials.

Buy a portion of your wardrobe at thrift stores. Also, if you have tons of clothes and small items you have not enjoyed for months, you may be able to sell or swap these through a thrift or consignment store for items you really need.

Downgrading your television service could save money. Some consumers spend as much for television entertainment as they do for electricity for their home. A change may save $30 a month or more.

Save money by changing your cell phone company for a better deal. Some families spend hundreds each month for the convenience of having everything the cell phone company has to offer.

Super great article, with so many suggestions!! What bugs me about coupons is that there are tons for the brands that have tons of added sugar or sodium, but I rarely am able to find the healthy ones. But yes, I’m one of those who opts for “real food”—and I often make it myself. (Just wish my hubby wasn’t so choosy about spices, tomato and onion chunks, etc.) But for products other than food, I definitely follow your advice. We also have several restaurants and movie theaters with really good deals, and we always use their coupons when they’re available…gas stations, and gas rewards places, too!
