Save on Pillow Pets with Promo Codes, Coupons and Smart Shopping Tips

Drew Taylor
It's a pillow! It's a pet! The pervasive ad and catchy tagline mean Pillow Pets will likely be on the wish lists of many children this year. Advertised as "the perfect $20 gift", the plush critters cost nearly $30 thanks to $8 in shipping charges. Try these tips to avoid the shipping fee and save money when shopping for Pillow Pets.

Buy Pillow Pets Locally = No Shipping Charge
As seen on TV products are often available at local retailers. CVS and Walgreens both recently advertised Pillow Pets for $19.99. Even without a coupon, purchasing Pillow Pets locally is cheaper than ordering online. If possible, save gas by shopping for Pillow Pets with your regular errands.

Avoid paying shipping charges and get the perfect pet by shopping at online retailers, such as Walmart, that offer free shipping to local stores.

Cheap Pillow Pets with a Coupon
Bed, Bath and Beyond has Pillow Pets available in its stores. Watch your mailbox and local newspaper for coupons. Bed, Bath and Beyond regularly has coupons for 20% off one item. Visit the company website to register for offers via mail and e-mail.

CVS ExtraCare members periodically receive coupons in store or via e-mail. Amounts vary, but a coupon for $5 off $30 purchase is common. CVS is currently e-mailing a coupon for $4 off $20 purchase to members who register their e-mail addresses for the first time. Card members also earn 2% in rewards, making this an excellent way to save money.

Use Promo codes at Online Retailers
Surprisingly, many online retailers have lower prices than the official Pillow Pets websites. Use store promo codes and free shipping specials to get a great price. (Websites such as Coupon Cabin maintain a reliable database of current coupon codes.) Factor in taxes, when applicable, and shipping to accurately compare prices.

Pillow Pet Discount
The Pillow Pet website is currently offering reduced shipping and a 20% discount when buying multiple pillows.

Hard to Find Pillow Pets
The makers of Pillow Pets add new critters and some are difficult to find either online or in stores. Be prepared to do some legwork and possibly pay full price if your child wants a specific creature. Shop early to allow yourself plenty of time to find a good deal.

Beware of Imposters
Some merchants are selling pricey knockoff versions but presenting them as authentic Pillow Pets. Real Pillow Pets have a "My Pillow Pets" label on the back leg. The logo includes the image of a cartoon cow. The soft, fluffy chenille fabric is another sign of the real deal.

Despite the trendy nature of Pillow Pets, it is possible to save money by using coupons, promo codes and comparison shopping.
