Because of the design of the device, you can point and shoot your chopped foods wherever you need them to go. For example, you can spread cheese on a pizza as you shred it or direct taco toppings directly into bowls as you go. I find this saves a lot of time because you do not dirty additional dishes and do not have to clean up as you go.
The product can both slice and shred. There are separate blades for each of these actions. It is easy to switch between the two as you simply have to twist the device and then pull the old blade out. The new one pops in and tightens with a twist. The blades have proven to be sharp enough for everything I need to cut and they are stainless-steel so there is no rusting.
Keep in mind, you will need to first cut the foods into chucks that can fit into the SaladShooter. Then, you will hold onto the device with one hand and push the food through with the other. The motor is controlled by a power button that is located right next to your hand.
I really appreciate that the SaladShooter slices very evenly. It makes food look much more presentable for a party that I would be able to do by hand. However, the device does a horrible job of slicing cheese. Even when grating, you will want to make sure softer cheeses are chilled first to get good results. Slicing works best on foods the consistency of carrots and cucumbers.
Except for the motor, all of the pieces can be washed in the dishwasher to make for easy clean up.
It does make a loud screeching sound while in use.
After being skeptical about purchasing this item as it looked like one of those "as seen on TV" pieces of garbage, I am glad I decided to try it out. I use the SaladShooter almost daily for one thing or another. It saves me a lot of time when preparing dinners for the family.
