Save Time and Money with the Prepass System

Keith Dailey
At various locations, it is a law that trucks must pull in some kind of weigh, commonly known as ports in stations, before getting to their final destinations, the time you will take in the process is entirely depended on the number of trucks ahead of you, and the process they are to undergo as some may be pulled aside randomly for such things as inspection.

The process can really consume much of your time. However, enrolling in the Prepass program is the most viable way to avoid this hassle. The program is simple, you have a monitor in your cab which records all information of your truck electronically, and thus you won't be required to pull in.

Basically, when your truck is a mile away towards the port's exit, the signal in the cab gets activated, the truck's info, weight and load capacity are sent to the ports signal and once everything is processed, the cab signals the driver with a green light to proceed. In Case the processing of the information will not be read properly, the cab will signal the driver with a red light, hence they must stop.

Be advised that certain types of loads must stop, whether the Prepass program is in place or not. The types of loads vary from state to state, for instance, it is mandatory for all out-sized loads to stop in some states, as it is mandatory in others that all trucks hauling dangerous materials should stop, thus you should be aware as the driver.

It is also important to know that not every driver qualifies for the Prepass program. Individuals are reviewed based on their driving record, their duration with a CDL, and the general record of the carrier that has employed the driver. Equally, be aware that Prepass has the mandate to revoke authorization, as and when they conduct reviews, meaning that if any documentation that earned you authorization has changed, you may not be entitled to use the service.

Many drivers have attested to the convenience and efficiency of the Prepass program, which costs only $15.59 per month, payable monthly or annually, online or by mail. Employers who own fleets of trucks attest to the fact that it has contributed to huge savings. As an owner operator, you pay the charge on your own, but it is entitled to deduction for income tax reasons.

Over 415,000 semi trucks in US are using Prepass program today. Remember, the transponder is placed easily on the windshield without causing any damage and it is free. Equally, there are no extensive binding contracts in that you can cancel the agreement with Prepass, return the equipment and clear off all outstanding bills in full.

Signing up for the program is as simple as fixing it. Just fill in an online form and present it electronically, or the company can mail you an application form. Immediately after verification and approval, Prepass will sent you the transponder, alongside installing instructions. If by any case you aren't approved, you will be notified the cause, by mail immediately the decision has been reached
