There are many exciting things to do in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania, and in Luzerne County as well. To be sure the area and the county have had more than there share of problems and really taken their hits in the media lately. Nevertheless, it is still a fascinating area with many exciting developments.
Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees
One of the most fascinating institutions are the Scranton Wilkes-Barre (SWB) Yankees the official Triple A team of the New York Yankees. The team is a treasure in Northeastern Pennsylvania and we want to keep them here. They are having financial difficulties, as they have to compete for scarce recreation dollars in this Great Recession, and as we said, they are many interesting things to do in Luzerne County. Last year, I published a fascinating article on this web site explaining that the (SWB) Yankees had a lot of promotions available which made them a good value for the money. I e-mailed the organization to let them know the article was out there. Apparently they thought it was a good idea. Immediately after that article appeared on this website a similar article appeared in the local newspaper. This year the (SWB) Yankees are again emphasizing that they have many promotional opportunities that make them a good economic value, and articles are appearing in the local newspapers. It is a great feeling knowing that this website is doing its part to help this great institution succeed in Northeastern Pennsylvania!. Those of you who live in Northeastern Pennsylvania, make sure you see a couple of (SWB) Yankee games this year.
The 2011 Season
(SWB) Yankees president, Kristen Rose, describes the promotions and giveaways as comparable to the 2010 season. This year they are being announced well in advance so fans know what to expect.
The 2011 promotions announced last week have the theme "Party like a champ," and are concentrated on the weekends when people have most of their free time. The following programs were announced:
* Post game fireworks will follow 12 games at PNC Field, and that is two more than last year.
* Giveaways are planned at five different games for the first 2,00 fans that go through the gate.
* Live entertainment during selected games.
* Theme nights featuring outstanding local, national, and international organizations.
The Great Deal
There will be seven Friends and Family Nights with Wendys. Fans will get four game tickets, four hats and four Wendy's value meals. Believe it or not, that is a $140 value for just $29.95!
