The next day, I took James into the courtyard to show him exactly where Serena had landed. It was the first chance I had gotten to really look around. We were stunned to see a 2 inch metal pipe sticking up out of the ground millimeters from where I had seen her laying on the ground. We had come closer to losing her than we had realized.
The mystery of how she broke her ankle and fell out of the window was answered over the next few days. She had been sitting on the windowsill leaning back against the screen. It was an old building and the screen was being held in place with a few nails. The weight of her body forced the screen frame to bend and come out of the nails.
Brent saw her begin fall backward and reached out to grab her. He couldn't grab hold of her, and watched her fall. The look on his face that day was shock and horror at what he had seen happen to his baby sister. He was a month away from turning six and small for his age. If he'd been able to grab her, he could have been pulled out with her.
We gently questioned Serena to get the details of what happened as she saw it. She told us Brent pushed her out the window, then she was falling backwards and a lady was there. It took us awhile to convice her Brent didn't push her out the window, that he was trying to save her.
A bit more questioning and she told us that the pretty lady with a long white dress and long blond hair, helped her get almost to the ground. She landed on her feet, fell over on the ground, and then I was there.
Serena also told us how her foot hurt when she landed on the ground and that's why she fell. There was also a pretty bird flying around them too. With help of pictures she immediately identified it as a dove. There were no doves, ever, around the building, nor had I ever seen any nearby.
A guy who was sitting at his kitchen table told us he saw something move out of the corner of his eye and turned to see what it was. He said at first he thought it was a leaf because it was floating, but he realized it was too big to be a leaf. He waved his hand and arm back and forth to show us how he saw her floating in the air like a leaf falls off a tree.
Once we put the pieces together, we realized Serena had been saved by her guardian angel. She had helped Serena float through the air, and for whatever reason couldn't gently set her down but made sure she landed on her feet. That is the reason she had a broken ankle. Serena wore a bright pink cast that went from high on her thigh to her toes for about 6 weeks.
When it was time to take the cast off, the doctor had to take x-rays first. He wanted to be sure the growth bone in her ankle had fully healed before doing any cutting. Serena reacted just as I thought she would by screaming bloody murder, deafening the entire office and making all our ears bleed freely. She gave another rousing rendition of "They're Freakin' Killin' Me," when the nurse fired up the saw to cut the cast off.
Over the next week I massaged her leg, foot, and ankle, flexing it and getting her to walk normally again. By the end of the first week after the cast came off she was running. Since then she hasn't had any problems with that foot or ankle bothering her in any way, even when it rains. To this day we are still in awe of it all, knowing she's here for a reason. I believe she has important things to do in this life.
Life is too short to blindly scream along at warp speed without taking some time to cherish your family. If there is one thing I would like you to take away from this story, it is this, tell your kids you love them every day. Tell the people in your life you care about how much they mean to you once in awhile. Cherish every day as if it were your last because it just might be.

Post a CommentI love reading the angel stories published in Guideposts magazine, but besides that I have talked with people who have had angelic experiences. Angels ore out there, miracles are out there and better documented than ever, God is there. If only more people would open their hearts to Him!
I do believe in angels. I had an angel with me while in a car accident. I know what you're saying is true. Thanks God everything worked out well. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing with us your story. I really liked it. I do believe Angels are among us.
Wow - terrific story, I have shivers just thinking about it, great work!
Brilliant story with a great ending!
What a great ending. I am glad Serena's Guardian Angel was there to save the day. It makes me wonder why other Guardian Angels can't come through for those that they are supposed to protect. This was a nice series.
Gave me goosebumps to read this! Miracles are all around us - profound like this, and little ones we blink and miss....
Great story...I love happy endings!
Great story, and I am so glad things turned out fine. I do believe in Angels, and that as children we all see them, but are taught it is our imagination. Also, cool way to write in episodes. I've thought of doing that before. Your knack for leaving us wanting was very skillful!
Although I dont comment on them all honey I do read them and this has been the most amazing story. I knew you were blessed with Serena and that she was here to do amazing things but this just reinforced it! You are an amazing writer!!
Love You!!
