The first thing you need is some kind of organization. You can buy a coupon organizer, or just use a regular envelope. It doesn't matter what you use as long as you use something to keep everything together. Once you've decoded what to keep your coupons in, decide where you are going to keep them. I keep mine in an organizer in my purse. As soon as I clip them, I put them in my purse. Putting them by the door is another way to make sure that you won't forget them when you go shopping.
Once you've figured out where to keep them, you need to find coupons that you will actually use. Try not to be tempted to clip and use coupons for things you wouldn't normally buy, unless it is something new that you want to try, or you can replace something more expensive that you usually buy. Buying extra things just because you have a coupon could very well end up costing you more money than what you are saving.
There are a lot of different places that you can get coupons. You can always get them the traditional way, by cutting them out of newspapers. We get the paper delivered to our house everyday. I always check the coupons to see if we will use any of them. If I don't plan on using them, i sometimes will trade them with someone else. That's the second way to get coupons.
There are many different ways that you can trade coupons. You can trade the ones you don't want for ones that you do want. A lot of people do this with friends or family members. Another good way to do this is to search forums that are just for coupon trading. If you have baby coupons that you won't use, they are especially popular on most sites. You can trade them for grocery or pet or whatever coupons you need. Of course if you need the baby ones, you can get them there as well.
Another great way to get coupons is to just get internet coupons that you can print off on your own printer. Most stores that accept traditional coupons will accept internet ones as well. There are many sites that offer free internet coupons for a wide variety of products. My favorite way to get internet coupons is through mypoints.com. When you print out coupons through their site and redeem them, you get points as well as your coupon savings. You can trade your points in for gift cards so it's like you are getting double rewards for using these coupons.
The last place I get coupons is by signing up with the company. I've signed up with several companies that now send me coupons directly in the mail. Most of these are baby coupons, but occasionally I will find others as well. These are always regular manufacturer's coupons so they will be accepted anywhere that allows coupons.
If you use coupons on everyday purchases, you can save hundreds of dollars every year. I don't know anyone who can't use that kind of extra money.
