Saw III

My Favorite Film of 2006

Jonathon Knight
I love the Saw films. Cause of them I have a new Halloween tradition, go see a Saw film (as long as they keep making them). To me the Saw films are the new Friday the 13th in which almost every year we are treated to new film in the series. Saw III delivered everything I wanted in a Halloween movie. It was gory, clever, very well acted and directed and featured enough twists and turns to please this Saw fan. I was a big fan of Saw and Saw II so III had a lot to live up to and not only did it manage to equal the original for me, but it surpassed II as one of my favorite horror sequels of all time!

Saw III quickly became my favorite horror film (and film in general) of 2006. It was like a "Jon Knight" special, it had everything I craved in a horror film! It had lots of brutal and gory violence, clever traps and twists (yes I said it, I thought the flick was clever), solid acting, stylish and slick direction and a nice pace that was never slow or too fast. The traps featured here were the best of the series for me with The Rack and the Rib Cage dealo being my personal favorites! Also the twists and turns showcased here totally got me. Sure I can see one being easily guessed but some of twists I can't see fans guessing before hand. When the final twist came out, my jaw dropped to the floor. What was the twist? All I will say is "Insurance Policy". Fucking loved it! Also seeing what really went down in the events of the first two Saw Films had this fanboy grinning like crazy. Good shit!

The acting on display is great. Tobin Bell is Jigsaw. He can play this role in his sleep. He's great as usual. Shawnee Smith (Amanda) is also great as Jigsaw's apprentice. She hits all the right notes. Bahar Soomekh (Lynn) was effective as the captive doctor. Her scenes with Jigsaw and Amanda are great. Angus Macfadyen (Jeff) was intense and very credible as the grieving father. I really felt his pain.

Darren Lynn Bousman's directing was stylish, slick and overall a tight and visual show. Great Job!

The music score by Charlie Clouser is intense, somber and quite creepy, all at the same time. Good work.

This has to be the goriest of the Saw movies, no doubt about that. Dismembered bodies, limbs being twisted, fleshing ripping and more! Practical with no noticeable CGI. Brutal and messy, the way I like it.

Saw III is my favorite film of 2006. It delivered everything I look for in a horror film. Grab some soda, some popcorn and prepare to play a game. Highly recommended.
