Here is a chance to see living history while enjoying time with family and friends this holiday season. Maybe even more important is a chance to bring the kids to a truly unique event that just may fill their minds with history and wonder. The recently renovated and reopened Sawmill Museum, along the banks of the Mississippi River in Clinton, Iowa, is hosting a special event Saturday, Dec. 10.
Meanwhile, other events are designed to attract visitors, both local and those who may be looking for a unique getaway, to discover the lumberjack industry, and to witness it in action.
On Saturday, Dec. 10 from 1-3 p.m., the museum will open its doors for a holiday Cookie Decoration for only $3.
On Saturday, Dec. 17 from 1-3 p.m., the event is Celebrate Christmas Santa and Annie (as in Annie, the "Sun Will Come Up Tomorrow" fame.). Again, the admission price is just $3.
Then, on New Year's Eve, albeit the daytime, take a trip into American's past at the museum. A party at a place where a working sawmill still exists. You may have seen "Night At The Museum" and now it's time to experience NOON Year's Eve. That's right, NOON. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 31 with party favors and a countdown to NOON. At 12:15 p.m. the movie "Night at The Museum" with be shown.

For those who may be concerned about the impact that the industry has had and may have concerns, this museum is dedicated to that as well. "This project [Sawmill Museum] is truly the definition of an era that will take the lessons of history and relate them to current issues of "greening" that continue to be of grave concern to environmentalists, said president of the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce, Julie Allesee.
The Sawmill Museum is designed to preserve, collect, interpret, and explore the history of America's sawmill, lumber, and forestry industries. It is centered around the story of Clinton, Iowa's rich lumber history. The Museum features exhibits, programs, and events that explore the history of these industries, their current practices, and future opportunities and challenges.
