The OC is responsible for bringing a bundle of new actors and actresses into Hollywood, as well as revving up the resumes of some older actors such as Peter Gallagher, who plays Sandy Cohen. The newer faces included Benjamin McKenzie, who played a leading role as Ryan Atwood, and Misha Barton, who's role as Marissa Cooper was "killed off" in season three.
The OC portrayed the life of rich kids and their parents living in a wealthy area, among the rich attitudes were scandals only The OC could bring to the table. Scandals were actually a large part of The OC and by the second season, every episode left viewers with the "they can't end it like that" feeling, making them come back for more week after week.
If you were an avid OC watcher, not only do you not need a rundown of the show, but you will probably painfully admit the show had to retire. The fourth and final season of The OC was a bit dry. Though it was spiced up to maintain the scandal level, and love interest mode, it failed to keep viewers hanging on, as the past three seasons had.
Something was missing. Sorry to let the producers of The OC know this, but much of it's viewers dropped out of sight once Marissa died.
Marissa, played by Misha Barton was a main role in the OC. She had an on and off again relentless relationship with Ryan Atwood, and we all wanted to see them together. The OC scandals usually revolved around Marissa and often times portrayed her as a problem in almost every episode. As a matter of fact Misha, in an interview after she left the OC was quoted saying "there was nothing left for my character to do". Which is true, after all she was an alcoholic, drug using, drop out, who's parents divorced, and her mother slept with her boyfriend, and she also shot someone. Did you get all that?
While we had a hard time saying bye to Marissa, viewers will also have a difficult time saying bye to The OC once and for all. Although there was only four seasons, it marked an OC fever in television shows on every other network. From Laguna Beach on MTV to The Real Housewives of Orange County on Bravo. There was also a show titled Summerland on the WB that had a plot so close to the OC that it copped the name "Faux C". These are oddly enough just a few, there were literally dozens of shows that spun off the idea of The OC hoping for success, but none as successful as The OC.
Yes, viewers, we must say good bye once and for all to The OC. Don't worry I am sure you will be seeing the actors of The OC all over the place, as two of them already made appearances on CSI, another character landed on the series Shark, and although we haven't seen Misha yet, remember she did do that music video with Enrique Iglesias, and with her followers, she be on the screen again.
Oh, and you fans of Benjamin McKenzie, you know he is going to be the object of every girls affection for a while yet. When he first came out, everyone was calling him the young Russel Crow, which means he's here to stay for a while.
So to the talented cast of The OC, we wish you the best of luck in landing only the best roles in Hollywood. We hope to be seeing you grace the covers of our magazines and our TV screens alike for years to come!
