Say Goodbye to Face Fat

Puffy Cheeks and a Double Chin Are Constant Overweight Reminders

Gary Picariello
The effects of unwanted weight-gain show up in the most unexpected places like your face! For lack of a better name, "face fat" shows up in the form of puffy checks and a double chin. The worst thing is, losing face fat can be even more of a challenge than losing weight on any other part of your body.

If you suffer from a double chin and puffy cheeks there is hope. There are exercises you can do, but like anything, you have to apply yourself and dig in for the long-term.

First off, understand that the face is comprised of muscles and any time you have muscles they can be worked out! Any time that happens you can expect to get toned and lose weight!

Double-chin: Unfortunately you can't "spot reduce" your double-chin. What you can do is tone up what is there. This, coupled with a sensible diet that includes lots of water and a lot less sugar, in addition to an overall fitness regimen, should have you looking a lot less like a turkey an a lot more like the svelte, toned up, hard-charger that you really are!

One of the best exercises there is to attack that double-chin is the neck stretch (see photos). You may want to do this in front of a mirror, but it's not essential. Tilt your head forward towards your chest and then backward as far as you can go. We'll consider this movement 1 repetition. You want to do 4 sets of 25 repetitions. You also want to do this movement slowly so you don't get dizzy. After you do your forward/backward sets of 4 x 25, you want to do 4 x 25 of side to side. Stretch to the left and then stretch to the right. Remember, do this slowly to avoid getting dizzy or light-headed.

Neck stretches can be accomplished anywhere and ideally you should aim at doing these in the morning and in the evening.

Puffy cheeks: Here's one of my favorites. Suck your cheeks in and hold for 2 seconds. Again, do this at least 25 times and perform 4 sets. You might feel silly doing this, but I guarantee you, after 4 x 25 repetitions of sucking in your cheeks, you're going to feel it! Why? Because you're giving those facial muscles a work-out!

A little variety doesn't hurt, so you might want to alternate your neck exercises with your cheek exercises every set.

The importance of water: Water flushes your body. Experts recommend you drink 8 glasses of water a day. Sure, you're going to pee like a race-horse, but that's only because your body is cleaning itself out. Lots of water coupled with regular of exercise will burn calories. And once you start doing that, want to know where you'll notice it first? On your face of course! Your face will appear thinner and more toned because it is!

Getting rid of that double-chin and those puffy cheeks is not that difficult, but it does take some effort on your part! Face fat doesn't have to be like a ball and chain that carry around forever. Do the exercises mentioned above and incorporate those exercises with a regular fitness program and diet and you'll be smiling like never before!

  • You can work out your face just like you work out the rest of your body.
  • The neck stretch is a great way to tone up that double-chin.
