SCAD Students and Alumni Chosen to Decorate the White House for Christmas

Renee Brown
Michelle Obama picked the theme "Simple Gifts" for 2010 Christmas decoration at the White House, while Savannah College of Art and Design students and alumni work hard to make her theme a reality. SCAD students and the alumni were deeply honored to be picked to design Christmas for President Obama and his family.

SCAD students and the alumni made nearly 200 ornaments, all natural from sticks, rocks, wood and things found in our backyards. SCAD students and alumni were thankful for the opportunity to take part in the transformation of the White House. They were assigned the blue room, an 18 ½ Douglas fir anchored to the ceiling to keep it from tipping over, has pieces of Savannah all over it, thanks to our SCAD students and alumni.

Michelle Obama chose the theme "Simple Gifts" because she says "The greatest blessings of all are the ones that don't cost a thing: the time that we spend with our loved ones, the freedoms we enjoy as Americans and the joy we feel from reaching out to those in need." We as people tend to forget about what matters most at Christmas time, Love.
