You get to play as the notorious drug lord from the film, Tony Montana. The story takes place at the shootout that occurs at the end of the film. Instead of dying from the barrage of bullets, Tony lives and barely escapes with his life. He is left with nothing but the clothes on his back. As Tony, your goal is to regain all that you lost and rebuild your underground drug empire!
You rebuild your empire in many ways: selling drugs, murder, bribery, extortion, negotiating, intimidating, fighting, smuggling and more. But you have to do this while avoiding the DEA and your many rivals. This is easier said than done. The game features a Heat system. The more heat you have on you, the more likely the police or rival gangs will find you and take you out. Be careful!
If you get in a pickle, Tony can enter the Blind Rage mode. In this mode Tony gets unlimited ammunition and becomes invulnerable. It is similar to when Tony gets severely angered in the film. However, Tony still has his morals and will not harm women or children!
Tony enters Blind Rage mode once his Balls meter is full. He fills this up by being "ballsy." Some ways of accomplishing this are: driving on the wrong side of the road, taunting enemies, and more.
As he builds his empire, Tony can buy properties to use as drug fronts. He can also hire henchman to run them and protect them. Lastly, Tony can acquire various vehicles and hire people to drive them. If he needs a ride, he just picks up his phone and calls his driver. Tony also uses his phone to negotiate transactions. Just a hint, Tony will use his phone often!
Scarface takes place across a huge open environment. Tony can go about as he pleases in Miami, the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, and more. All locations are authentic to the time period featured in the film and look quite realistic. The character models are flawless, especially Tony's. All of his memorable body languages are used in this game! With regards to sound, the soundtrack is excellent and features some cool 80's music. The voice acting is right on the mark and full of cursing. (Someone should put a bar of soap in Tony's mouth). Lastly, the cut scenes are quite good.
Scarface is available for XBOX and Playstation 2. It has an ESRB rating of M for mature. This is because the game features intense violence, blood, gore, sexual themes, strong language, and use of drugs. If you can't seem to get anywhere in the game, a strategy guide is available.
