Scarlet Night Crochet Clutch Pattern

Phebe A. Durand
When you're stuck with some left-over yarn and trying to come up with a pretty - but very quick - pattern for an accessory (or, as I've discovered, a perfectly sized lingerie bag), this might be exactly what you're looking for. The finished clutch measures 6 1/2" tall by 8" wide, is completed in about an hour, and contains nothing but single crochet stitches which make it a great beginner project as well.

Scarlet Night Crochet Clutch

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn; 2 oz. scarlet/red, 1 oz. black
Size G/6 4.25 MM Crochet Hook

Abbreviations:
Ch = Chain
Sc = Single Crochet

Notes: The clutch is worked in two pieces; a smaller front and a back that folds over the top of the front to create the flap. Trim is added last, stitching both pieces together.

Clutch Front

Ch 31 loosely
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (30 sc)
Row 2: (Right Side) Ch 1, turn; skip first sc, 2 sc in next sc, *skip next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * across.
Rows 3-20: Repeat row 2.

Finish off.

Clutch Back

Ch 31 loosely
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (30 sc)
Row 2: (Right Side) Ch 1, turn; skip first sc, 2 sc in next sc, *skip next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * across.
Rows 3-32: Repeat row 2.

Finish off.

Trim

Match front and back along the bottom edge. Starting at one side of the front (shorter) and working through both thicknesses, join black with a slip stitch.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each stitch around, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with slip stitch to first sc.
Round 2: Ch 2, sc in first sc, skip next sc, *(sc, ch 1, sc) in the next sc, skip next sc. Repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch to first ch of beginning ch 2.

Finish off.
