Scarlett Johansson Gets Under the Skin as an Alien in Her Latest Movie

Under the Skin Starring Scarlett Johansson from the Book by Michael Faber

With a movie scenario that is bound to have men everywhere eager to see it, the beautiful Scarlett Johansson is reported to have accepted the starring role in a new Sci-Fi drama called "Under The Skin".

Details of the movie are still sketchy at this point, however the movie is reported to be directed by Jonathan Glazer and the screenplay for Under The Skin was co-written by him together with Walter Campbell, and is based on the 2000 novel by Michael Faber.

The plot sounds rather like others that have been seen before, with Scarlett Johansson cast in the lead role as an alien, disguised as a drop dead gorgeous woman, who uses her sexuality to lure her human prey.

As is also typical with so many Sci-Fi movies, much of the plot takes place on remote highways and desolate areas, away from the bustling cities.

The plot twists as the character becomes changed by the complexity of life on earth, and as she gradually adopts human characteristics, she ends up in a battle between her new found life and her alien one.

The story takes place in the northern Scottish Highlands, and where the main character, "Isserley", who is played by Johansson, searches out "juicy well-muscled hitchhikers". As the story progresses, the reader learns more of the woman's unusual deformities, such as breasts that are too large and legs that are too short, and covered in scars, and we learn that she was sent to Earth by a rich corporation to seek out victims that can be shipped back home and turned into food.

The original story apparently runs out of steam once the reader find out the reason why Isserley is collecting these hitchhikers that she meets, and once we learn their gruesome purpose, but hopefully the screenplay has overcome these shortcomings, and will have an ending that will not disappoint.

The official press release for the movie is as follows:

"Johansson plays an alien on earth, disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman. She scours remote highways and desolate scenery looking to use her greatest weapon to snare human prey -- her voracious sexuality. She is deadly efficient, but over time becomes drawn to and changed by the complexity of life on earth. With this new found humanity and weakening alien resolve, she finds herself on a collision course with her own kind. Taking her point of view throughout, the film presents a unique look at our world through alien eyes."

Jonathan Glazer as director gained recognition for the movies Sexy Beast (2000) and Birth (2004).

Under The Skin is being produced by Nick Wechsler and James Wilson, with Tessa Ross of Film4 as executive producer.

Don't be too eager to see this movie just yet though. Production is not set to begin until late Spring in 2011, with a likely release date in 2012.

I love Sci-Fi but this plot sounds very familiar. Been a few just like this one. Maybe you could do a top 10 list of hot killer alien movies?

    She is very cool... :o)

I think this would be one of those movies that are fun to watch, but not necessarily a great movie to become blockbuster. Lots of people will probably watch it just to see Scarlett in action.

I love Scarlett ...cold be good!

@Michele Not really. Sci-fi or Horror aren't everybody's cup of tea. Some are happy with Drama or Comedy, or Hallmark type true life movies. This just seemed like a good movie to cover.

Not my genre either (between this and the Harry Potter stuff - you must be wondering what we do watch!) LOL, cheers :)
