Scary Halloween Costume Ideas for Kids

Jack Rella
Scary Halloween costumes are part of what makes trick or treating so much fun for kids. Unlike character costumes, the scary costumes allow for endless creativity at a minimal cost. These scary Halloween costumes for kids are sure to frighten on Halloween night.

Haunted Bride

For the little girl with a penchant to frighten, a haunted bride is a great choice for a kid's scary Halloween costume. Find a white dress and white shoes. Drape some lacey material over her head and attach it with bobby pins. Then wrap gauze around her arms and ankles so that it hangs as she is walking. Put white face paint all over her face and then add red face paint to make it look like the scary bride is bleeding. Smudged mascara under her eyes will make her look even scarier. Accessorize with a bouquet of black silk flowers for a creepy finishing touch.

Haunted Groom

Typically every bride has a groom. If the haunted bride has a brother or friend who wants a scary Halloween costume idea, she could "propose" that he be a haunted groom. A dark suit, dark shoes, and a black bow tie make a great mock tuxedo. Red and white face paint with smudged mascara can be used to create a creepy looking face. As he walks down the street arm in arm with his bride, this haunted couple is sure to frighten the scariest of monsters.

Psycho Cheerleader

Another simple but scary Halloween costume idea for girls is the psycho cheerleader. Start with a cheerleading outfit and accessorize with red face paint for blood and smudged mascara under the eyes. Red face paint can also be used to make it look like blood is running down her legs. Black pom-poms can finish off this scary Halloween costume.

One Armed Monster

If a boy wants to scare his friends by wearing a monster mask like the ones shown at FrightCatalog.com, he can make his Halloween costume even scarier by making it look as if he only has one arm. By cutting off the sleeve of an old shirt, stuffing the empty hole with gauze and keeping his arm inside his shirt, the one-armed monster is a simple but extremely scary costume idea for kids.

King Tut

For the boy who knows his history, a walking King Tut makes for an unusually scary Halloween costume for kids. A King Tut mask like the one at BuyCostumes.com is a great start. Finish off this scary costume by dressing in white clothes wrapped in gauze. Family Fun's website also shows how to make a scary King Tut Halloween costume.

Most kids love to frighten their friends and family with scary Halloween costumes. Making a simple but scary Halloween costume with a child is a way to make fun memories that will last a lifetime.
