Scary Halloween Story: "Halloween" Phone Call

Shamontiel
There are very few things that scare me, even the scary scenes in movies, the front of rollercoasters and the news. I usually brush these things off with the motto "things happen." However, one day a few years back when I was feeling especially adventurous, I decided I was going to watch "Halloween" in my home by myself.

I got a blanket, a pillow, popped the movie on and got comfortable, humming the notorious piano instrumental before the opening credits were displayed. Then I saw the beginning with Jamie Lee Curtis walking down the street, looking back to see if someone was following her, and I heard breathing. But this wasn't breathing from the movie. It was breathing from my house phone. I turned around and looked to see the recording light on my answering machine was lit, but the phone didn't ring.

I stood up and went to the phone, still only hearing heavy breathing. I picked up the receiver and hung it up, then checked the phone. The ringer was on and at a loud setting, but that phone did not ring. The answering machine was set to three rings, but the strange thing was that the answering machine message didn't even play.

That was enough strange coincidences for me. I grabbed my jacket, pressed stop on the DVD player, grabbed my keys and left the house. I didn't come back home until my parents were back, and they laughed at me for the rest of the night. They think I scared myself silly trying to watch "Halloween" with no one home in the middle of the day. To this day, I still will not watch "Halloween" by myself, and when I do, I usually check to make sure my phone is operating properly.
