Scene Style

For most teens and pre-teens, there are styles they feel they have to adhere to. Whether they believe they are a jock, indie, geek chic, goth or scene, it is all about the clothes and what is represented. Scene is a fashion that was first made popular in Japan, originally because of the Anime and Manga popularity. Now that these graphic novels have come to our shores, the style has as well.

This style is really a mix of dark and perky. To be stylish and scene, you have to wear a mix of what would be termed gothic and then something that no self-respectable goth would wear, such as Hello Kitty rings and a bright pink bow. This style is all about mixing things that usually do not meld well - different patterns, odd colors, and preferable neon blended with something properly somber. In this case, opposites do attract.

When dressing in this fashion it is important to remember that the style is truly about opposites, so wear lace with combat boots or a frilly skirt with severe black top. Nothing is really over the top. The only things that usually aren't seen in these clothes would be suit vests and elegant attire. This isn't about classy, it's about making a statement.

The hair also plays into the whole picture and can be even more adventurous than the clothing. Usually hair is bright pink, purple, teal or something properly shocking. It is not unique to see teenagers with a mix of several colors layered through their hair as well. The hair is reminiscent though not exactly like the punk rockers from the 80s, but you would not see a punk rocker in pig tails and cute little bows and flowers in their hair. You will with scene. This plays back to the origins of this fashion, Manga. Although the hair might be vivid and bright, the actual hairstyle can be very young, and the hair things like bows, headbands and even tiaras are won regularly.

Last but not least, jewelry and accessories are vital. In this, the choice is really up to you. Some of the jewelry is really unique like heavy chains mixed with carabineers and dice, but there are also less dramatic picks. Cameos, pearls and Hello Kitty jewelry is really popular and can be seen mixed together. Then of course there are the accessories such as ties, gloves, and knee-high socks. Ties that are worn over bright t-shirts, and knee-high socks worn with frilly skirts are very popular.

Ultimately, when shopping to fit the "scene" style its best to just let your whims do the shopping. Pick up the crazy pair of leggings, the classy necklace and the bright flower headband because you can actually wear them together in this unique fashion trend.
