The Blueridge mountain drive, from Walhalla to White Water Falls, which is the highest waterfall east of the rockies. Is a 75 mile drive through the forests and mountains of North Carolina. The majestic views of the Blue Ridge mountain tops and cool resting spots where you can take a hike or visit waterfalls in the area, make it one of North Carolinas top attractions. This area is known for several top tourists spots such as Stumphouse tunnel and Issaqueens Falls, which plunge an incredible 411 feet. Isaqueens Falls got its name from an Indian maiden who pretended to commit suicide by jumping into the falls.
Whitewater Falls and Oconee State Park- Throughout this drive you will be privileged to the majestic mountain views of the rockies, you'll scale mountains in your vehicle and then hike into the natural splendor and tranquility of the mountain caves. Where hiking trails lead to forbidden waterfalls and secret fishing lakes which are beautiful and peaceful.
The Hopkins to Santee State Park scenic drive takes you through some of the scenic areas and remote villages of the Upper South Carolina coastal region. Including the Congaree river, Upper Santee swamp and Santee state park. With temperatures in the upper 90's during the summer months, miles of beautiful, majestic scenery and many local camping, fishing and hiking spots, this drive offers some of the best scenery to be found in South Carolina.
Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway begins at Lake Hartwell and takes you through the historic Cowpens S.C. as well as Gaffney S.C.
Its 110 miles of state parks, fruit orchards and small historic villages. This drive follows an old Cherokee pathway shadowed by the Blueridge mountains.
Once known as Keowee path or Cherokee path, its 110 miles of the rich cultural heritage of South Carolina.
You'll drive through Kings Mountain military park, the site of the 1870's war between the patriots and loyalists. This is a great spot for those interested in history and the civil war.
You'll see the peach capital of the world and home of native Andie Mcdowell, Gaffney S.C. Besides being the home of Mcdowell, Gaffney is also famous for its giant water tower in the image of a peach. Cowpens National Battlefield is another national monument you'll be privileged to see. This is the site of the 1781 battle between the patriots and the British. At Cowpens Battlefield you can hike a mile long trail, enjoy a picnic lunch and explore the park at your convenience.
After the battlefield, make sure you check out Campbells covered bridge, which is the only covered bridge in the state, its well over 100 years old.
Then of course you'll want to hike the trails of Glassy Mountain, which has a 1100 foot high cliff with a sheer rock face.
Also, visit Ceasars Head state park, which is famous for its beautiful views, twisting hiking trails and impressive majestic waterfalls.
