Scents to Give You a Boost

Did you ever notice how smelling a certain scent can change the mood you are in? Well, that's because they trigger what is called neurotransmitters in the brain. These neurotransmitters are chemicals in the brain that stimulate mental and physical functions.

It is said that you can control your hunger and your appetite just by inhaling certain scents. Some also believe that this is a way that you can lose weight. There have been studies in which people have sniffed scents such as banana, green apple and peppermint and have lost as much as 30 pounds in six months. another study showed that those who were hungry and inhaled a chocolate scent had lost almost three pounds in about two weeks. Now, this would be great if we all have the self control to not eat as we are sniffing!

There are also scents used to increase energy levels. These smells stimulate the part of the brain used for wakefulness. There's my favorite...freshly brewed coffee. Then there's peppermint. Peppermint increases alertness while working on the sensory nerves in the brain. The we have the sweet smell of strawberries and the smell of buttered popcorn. Some studies have shown that these two aromas caused those who were exercising to burn more calories. And then there is jasmine. Jasmine causes an increase in beta waves in the brain to make you more alert. Just brew a nice hot cup of jasmine tea and you'll see!

Some also say there are aromas to boost your romance levels. For men it is believed that lavender increases his blood flow by 40% and the smell of doughnuts, black licorice, vanilla and his woman's perfume are all equally stimulating for him. Now for the ladies, it is believed that the aromas of licorice as well as cucumber are stimulants. Forget the smell of that barbecue though, it is believed that this smell is a turn off for some ladies, as well as cherries and even her man's cologne!

Did you want to reduce the effects of anxiety? The scents of green apple and cucumber have a calming effect on the brain. In general, you can use any fresh or natural scent to reduce anxiety.

Now, there are scents that can improve memory! As I get older, as I'm sure many can relate, I notice that my memory isn't even close to what it used to be. It is said that inhaling anything with a floral scent can stimulate the part of the brain for memory. I think I'm going to have an indoor garden as well as an outdoor one!

Have some fun with the knowledge I've just provided. You may find some scents to add that better suit your needs. Just enjoy your journey into the world of stimulating aromas!
