Scholastic Announces Harry Potter Contest: 1,000 Winners Will Have the Chance to Meet J.K. Rowling

On Friday, Scholastic, the publisher of the Harry Potter series, announced a sweepstakes for fans to have the chance to meet the creator of Hogwarts, J.K. Rowling, on October 19 at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Scholastic is calling it the Open Book Tour Sweepstakes. They will select one thousand fans for an evening with J.K. Rowling. J.K. Rowling will read selections from her recent book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. She will also sign books and answer reader questions.

In recent years, J.K. Rowling has had little opportunity to visit the United States. Her upcoming book tour will promote the release of the final Harry Potter tome, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. For readers who have grown up with Harry Potter, Hermione, and the Weasley family, this J.K. Rowling night at the Carnegie offers the chance of a last time. The contest will begin July 30, 2007 and end August 31, 2007. It requires no purchase.

How to Enter the J.K. Rowling and the Open Book Tour Sweepstakes

After July 30, 2007, you can enter the J.K. Rowling and the Open Book Tour Sweepstakes at www.scholastic.com/harrypotter/events/ . You then will have to print out and complete a form/ or by printing your name, home address, and phone number on a sheet of paper and mailing the entry to:

You can only enter one entry.If you enter more than one entry, you will be disqualified from the sweepstakes to meet with Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.

Entries Must Be Submitted by August 31, 2007.

Winners will be selected in a random drawing and notified by mid-September 2007.

What You Win

One thousand winners will receive a pair of tickets to an evening with J.K. Rowling at Carnegie Hall in New York City on October 19, 2007. If you are under 18, you must bring your parent or legal guardian as your guest. If you are under seven, you will not be permitted to attend the Harry Potter event. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about their favorite Harry Potter characters like Hermione, Ron, and Hagrid.

In additiion to the Carnegie Hall event, J.K. Rowling will be meeting with school children (chosen by the host cities) in Los Angeles, New Orleans, and New York City.
