School Christmas Party Activities

During the Christmas season, kids are eager to celebrate the holiday. It can be very hard for kids to concentrate on school work during the holidays. The best way to relieve this excitement is by planning a Christmas party for the children. There are many activities and games that school-aged children are sure to love. The following are 5 fun activities for a school Christmas party:

1.)Secret Santa

Kids love getting surprises. Secret Santa has always been a traditional activity for school Christmas parties. There are many ways to do it. You can pick names ahead a time, so the gifts can be more personalized. Or, you can have everyone bring gifts appropriate for boys and girls. During the party, everyone can either take turns picking wrapped gifts, or pick numbers that correspond with the gifts. Be sure to make the parents aware of a spending limit.

2.)Singing Christmas Carols
Christmas carols are a great way to celebrate the holidays. Depending on the size and scheduling of your school, it may be fun to go around to different classrooms and perform some traditional Christmas songs. Be sure to have sheets of music with the words so everyone can follow along. Some good songs for school aged children are "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Jingle Bells", and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas".

3.)Games

There are many games that can be made to be Christmas related. One great idea is picking a Christmas related word, such as gingerbread. Have the kids write down as many words as they can made from the letters in the given word. For example, with the word gingerbread you can spell big, dig, age, and ring. Set a timer, so whoever has the most words at the end of the time wins. Other easy games are Christmas crossword puzzles, word searches, and word scrambles.

4.)Crafts

Parents always love it when their kids make crafts in school to bring home to them. The type of craft would depend on the age group. One of my favorite crafts is making Christmas cards. Provide the children with construction paper, markers, crayons, scissors (depending on the age), glitter, glue, and anything ales creative that they can use to make the cards their own.

5.)Reading a Christmas Story

Everyone has their own Christmas story. Have the students bring in their favorite Christmas books. You can choose a few to read to the class as a whole, or have everyone get in groups where they read to each other.
