School Friendly Halloween Costume Ideas for Teachers

Lauren Romano
Just like many kids, there are plenty of teachers that enjoy wearing a costume for Halloween. Before choosing a costume to wear to work, check the school rules. Some may allow wearing costumes only part of the day, have a no face mask policy or won't allow props. As a teacher, choosing a school friendly Halloween costume can ensure that you enjoy the holiday without receiving any complaints or having any problems with kids, parents or the school system.

Mario from Super Mario Brothers

Even those that don't play video games are typically aware of the character Mario from Super Mario Brothers. The Halloween costume is quite simple so it allows for the teacher to change within minutes if necessary. It requires only a few pieces including blue overalls, a red shirt and hat, brown shoes and white gloves. The final accessory is the bushy mustache. If you have light colored or long hair, consider a dark brown wig to wear as well.

Scooby Doo

A beloved cartoon character, Scooby Doo has many fans from the very young to the elderly. The Halloween costume often consists of a jumpsuit, headpiece and gloves. Considering the full body costume, this is an excellent option for a teacher that works in a slightly chilly classroom. Wearing your own clothes underneath allows for an easy costume change.

Bumblebee

You can purchase a bumblebee Halloween costume or you can put one together yourself. To create one that is school friendly, wear a long or short sleeve yellow and black striped top, a black skirt or pants, black shoes, bee wings and a headpiece. If you wear a skirt, make sure to wear black leggings underneath.

Cat in the Hat

Many children are introduced to Dr. Seuss and The Cat in the Hat early on in school and have a love for the character into adulthood. For the teacher that also adores the character, it's an easy Halloween costume to put on and change out of. It typically consists of a red and white hat, a full body jumpsuit and a red bow tie. You may have to purchase the white gloves separately.

Butterfly

While you can purchase a butterfly Halloween costume in the store, they are often too revealing for a teacher to wear to school. Create one yourself by wearing a long sleeve black shirt, black pants and black shoes. Accessorize by wearing bright butterfly wings and antennae.

Bunny

Many store-bought bunny Halloween costumes are either too revealing or have a covered face, neither of which a teacher can wear to school. To create a bunny costume, wear white pants, a white long sleeve top, a pink vest and white sneakers. To accessorize, put on a bunny tail, wear bunny ears and carry a few carrots.

While many teachers enjoy wearing Halloween costumes, many kids also like seeing their teacher dressed up in something fun and different. Wearing a school friendly costume allows for the teachers to participate in the holiday instead of just supplying the means for the kids to do so.

Good ideas for teachers! A witch would also be a good one.
