School Parade Activities for Student Council

Student Council Victory Parade
Much like victory parties for real-life elected officials, a student council parade helps to celebrate new school government members. Most elements of this parade should be planned as early as possible. Decorations and a parade path throughout school hallways can be setup prior to the election of student council members. Advance planning will help to start the parade quickly after the winning candidates are announced. Girls and boys campaigning for open student council positions do not have to be involved in the victory parade planning process.

Victory parades are school activities that can be planned by teachers and former student council members. Make floats or small go-carts for student council members to sit in while moving through this victory parade. Purchase flags, balloons, confetti and noisemakers or music to be used during your school activities for student council. Invite boys and girls who are not members of student council to perform songs, jokes or dance routines during the parade. These performances should be done in between announcements for different student council members. Introduce them in opposite order starting with the treasurer and ending on your student council president.

Halloween Parade
Ask students at each grade level to dress up in costumes on a day where school parade activities for student council will take place. While this is a general invitation, all students should not be required to wear costumes if they disagree with dressing up for Halloween. Meet with fellow student council members and other extra curricular activity groups to plan a costume parade at your school. Dress up in costumes and stroll through the hallways greeting students with Halloween treats. Decorate the hallways where parade activities for student council will follow.

Senior's Farewell Parade
While student council members can be celebrated in a parade at the beginning of your school year, there is an end-of-year opportunity to congratulate seniors. Plan a farewell parade and schedule it to take place before seniors graduate. This event should preferably take place during the last month of your school year. Verify all graduating seniors with teachers or the principal to ensure accuracy in your celebration. Make a parade invitation and send it to all seniors who will be graduating at the end of the school year.

The invitations should ask seniors for their participation in your parade. Designate specific areas of your school for parade activities to take place. Rehearse the parade with seniors, members of student council and any classmates who volunteer to help plan this event. During the parade, clearly announce all seniors walking through and present them with balloons or congratulations greeting cards when they reach the stopping point of these activities. There should be at least one member of the student council at the starting and stopping points for a senior's farewell parade. Provide instructions on how to navigate through these activities at the starting point and present seniors with gifts at your stopping point.
