Make Your Own Magnets
A roll of magnets can be purchased at any craft store. These rolls can be cut into tinier pieces so that all children in the class have one to place on their creations. This allow them to take the project home and display it on their refrigerator. Give all the children a piece of foam and have them cut it into a shape, which forms the base of their magnet. Next ask them to take the strip off the back of their magnet and press it onto the back of their shape. Now they just need to decorate the front. They can do that with a permanent marker, some glue and glitter, and some craft jewels that are flat on one side. Students can write their own message on the foam and then decorate around the message with the markers or make some glue dots and top the glue dots with glitter. They can glue on some fake jewels for a fancier look. If students bring in a picture from home, they can even use that. Whatever you have on hand to decorate the shape is fine.
Noodle Art Project
Give each child in the class a piece of construction paper, a bottle of Elmer's glue, and noodles of all different colors and sizes. Children can take these noodles and create a pictures out of them. They may use colored noodles to create eyes and a mouth. They may use long ones to make a snake. They can even make a Christmas tree and use the colored noodles as ornaments. The possibilities are limited only by each child's imagination. This art project gets kids thinking out how they can use everyday objects to express themselves. Just be prepared to do a lot of hand washing after the craft is finished.
Valentine's Day Project
Your students will enjoy making these Valentine's Day hearts to be given to residents of a local nursing home. This project teaches the children the value of showing that they care for other members of the community. Give each child some red, pink, and white construction paper, some markers, heart stickers, and maybe even some lace. Demonstrate to the students how to cut out a simple heart and then let them create the Valentines. You may want to tell them that they can make several smaller hearts to put inside their big heart. They can add heart stickers, put a little message inside the heart with their markers, and glue some lace around the edges of the heart, or glue their big heart to a doily.
