School of Rock: Rock Stars Who Attended Ivy League Colleges

It's time to study like a rock star!

Alice Cooper may have become famous with the anti-school anthem, "School's Out," but some rock stars are smart enough to know that it's cool to go to a top-rated school. From a cat-eyed songstress to a rap metal guitarist, check out these musicians who went to Ivy League colleges.

Tom Morello- Harvard

The Rage Against the Machine guitarist and Guitar Hero star studied at Harvard back in the 1980s, rooming in Currier House and dividing his time there between his political science major and his love of music. Tom Morello rocked out while at Harvard, too, performing in bands with names like The Zoo, The Deviates and Bored of Education.

Lisa Loeb- Brown

It was just a few years after she graduated from Brown University with a degree in comparative literature that singer Lisa Loeb, donning her trademark cat-eye glasses, had a hit single with her song "Stay." The smart rocker made history with "Stay" as the only artist to ever have a number one single before being signed to a recording contract.

Greg Graffin- Cornell

The lead singer of the L.A. punk band, Bad Religion, earned his Ph. D. in zoology from Cornell University. He later returned to his other alma mater, UCLA, for a stint as a life science professor. Greg Graffin has said, "[Evolution is] a controversial topic that I embrace entirely both on an academic level and in my music."

John Legend- University of Pennsylvania

The Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter had scholarship offers from Harvard, Georgetown and Morehouse before attending the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated magna cum laude. (He majored in English with an emphasis on African American literature.) John Legend, who famously contributed to Kanye West's album, "The College Drop Out" was anything but; he has been vocal about his support of education reform and has even headlined a dropout prevention benefit.

Rivers Cuomo- Harvard

The lead singer/guitarist of the alternative band, Weezer, is an Ivy League rocker, graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard. Rivers Cuomo earned his bachelor's degree in English after a 10 year on-off stint at the prestigious university.

Huey Lewis- Cornell

The Huey Lewis and the News front man is one smart cookie. In the late 1960s he was accepted into Cornell University's School of Engineering. Lewis attended the Ivy League school for six months before he decided to follow his true calling: rock and roll. And luckily for us he did, because what would the 1980s have been like without "The Power of Love"?
