School Supplies for Rising 9th Graders

Whether one is looking forward to it, or dreading the day it starts, high school is a huge step. There are more teachers, more students, more classes, more lunch menu items, more vending machines, and more freedom. This new environment can often seem hectic and overwhelming for newcomers. A great way to prepare for the school year is to have the right supplies.

First and foremost on the list of school supplies for rising freshmen is a backpack. This backpack is going to be your new best friend. You'll take it everywhere with you, unless of course you are given enough time to visit you locker. With that in mind, comfort should largely factor into your choice. In addition to comfort, you need to recognize the quantity of binders, textbooks, and notebooks that will need to fit into said backpack. Many (less empathetic) teachers will have you carrying textbooks to and from school each day. With that said, the backpack should be fairly large (and durable). For a rising 9th grader some of the best backpacks on the market are made by North Face. They are good looking backpacks that are comfortable and built to last.

Another item to be added to the list of school supplies for rising 9th graders is the Five Star notebook. Inside these crafty notebooks are folders which also act as dividers for three to five subjects depending on which type you purchase. The Five Star notebook can easily replace any (possibly) bulky binder adding organization as well as conservation of space. This practical notebook is a must have.

Another essential item to purchase your rising freshmen is a graphing calculator. As far as school supplies for rising 9th graders go, this is of high importance. Students will be expected to use it for trigonometry, to graph inequalities, set up/solve matrices, etc. Some schools are privileged enough to be able to supply them for students but that is not to be counted on.

Usually beginning within the first couple of weeks of school students will be taking large quantities of notes. One of the best ways to add a little bit of excitement or spunk to a student's note-taking is to include colored pens in your list of school supplies for rising freshmen. Mechanical pencils are also good sources of writing utensils useful in tests, quizzes, and homework.

Like most other school years, it may not be surprising that a highlighter is recommended. When students are given notes or handouts it can be helpful to highlight key items and concepts. Sometimes they will even be expected to do so. Additionally, a glue stick completes the list of school supplies for rising 9th graders. Although they bring back an elementary school feeling, glue sticks can often be useful for in-class projects and adding handouts to one's notebook.

I grew up in South Carolina and moved down to Florida when I was 21, then at 31 I moved back. I love uncompetitive volleyball.. (you know like on the beach or in the pool or something).  View profile
