Schools Out

Things You Can Do with Your Kids

Mary Morgan
Now that school is out for the summer you can expect your kids to say at least a thousand time "I'm bored" I know mine does. I have learned that all kids needs to have a summer activity to help keep them occupied. We as parents have to remember that we use to be them and we need to gain our childhood back to be able to help our kids find something fun and different to do. Here is some suggestions from a child's point of view.

First check out a community center in your area this is great if you work and need day care lots of centers offer free programs for kids. Try the local civic center or youth centers even if there is a fee its usually affordable. These centers offers summer swimming classes and other activities for your kids to enjoy.

Another suggestion would be if you are a stay at home mom and you your self needs a little extra income you could start a summer youth day care. Giving your kids other kids from the area someone to play with. I have a pool and we invite kids from the neighborhood over to have pool parties. The kid enjoy it and it also gives my kids something to do. Have summer camp outs in your back yard let your kids invite their friends over for a day or two and pitch a tent in the back yard let them pretend.

Another thing I do with my kids is nature hikes. They love learning new things and the best part is you are spending time teaching them as you go. I also find natural items for my kids to use in craft project's when we return home from our hikes. This not only teaches them about nature but it also give them the exercise that they need to stay healthy. It's better then being inside on a XBOX all summer.

There is a lot of different activities you can get your child involved in. Just check around your community. Most towns have summer work programs that you can sign your kids up for that give them something to do and they can earn some extra money as well. My kids love the fact that they can earn their own spending money. If there isn't a summer work program in your area start one your self. Ask your neighbors if they have any work your kids can do for them chances are they can help with yard work for a few dollars.

My kid help with cutting the grass for their grandparents and their aunt who isn't able to do it for them selves. It give the chance to be responsible and they earn some spending money for when they go on trip.

Take a over night trip with your kids. It doesn't have to be far you can go to a camping area at a near by lake. Just getting your kids out of the house and giving them something to do they will get the needed exercise and the enjoyment out of being kids. And eventually they will discover that there is more to life then a game system. They become healthy and they will thank you for that.
