Schwan's Krunchie Potato Wedges - a Review!

Lchaim
Has anyone ever seen the Schwan's truck around their neighborhood? It's a frozen-food home delivery service that has been in business for over 50 years. You can order a variety of mostly pre-cooked Appetizers, main dishes (meats, poultry, seafood, ribs), side dishes and desserts. If you've been to the supermarket and seen Red Barron or Tombstone pizza in the frozen food isle, you've seen Schwan's as well!

Does Schwan's Deliver to your area?

This review is about Schwan's Krunchie Potato Wedges. These are more than just steak type fries. These are larger wedges of potatoes with the skins still on. Now it's amazing that my kids like these because generally they will not eat any type of potato which has any skin on it. That includes most French fries, mashed potatoes, or baked potato (they only the insides). But these potatoes they LOVE. When cooked according to the directions (though I leave them in the oven for an extra minute or two) they are crunchy on the outside with a light batter and moist and tender on the inside. One of the downsides and maybe why these taste so good is the high amount of sodium. One serving packs 430 mg of sodium.

Schwan's sells these in a 2 pound resealable bag for $4.20. I don't believe that is so unreasonable considering they are delivering this to your door. A serving size is considered 8 pieces and Schwan's says that there are about 11 servings to a bag, so that's about 90 wedges. That's a decent size bag. I think that even 8 of them is more than enough for one serving. My kids won't eat that many of them with a meal.

As far as nutrition information, each serving contains 140 calories with 50 of them being fat calories which IS still pretty high. 1-1/2 grams of the fat is saturated fat and there's no trans fat in these potatoes. There's 2 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein in each serving and no cholesterol.

Schwan's also sells regular crinkle cut fries which I happen to like better, but in this house, it doesn't matter what I like, it's what the kids like!
