Schwinn 140 Upright Exercise Bike Review

Jamie Cortez
An exercise bike is a good exercise equipment for low-impact and cardiovascular workout. It can burn calories four times faster than walking. However, not everyone wants to spend a fortune for an exercise bike. Especially when they know the bike might only use it for a couple of months.

If you're one of those people then buying a Schwinn 140 exercise bike may be a good choice. With its $129 price tag this bike won't burn a hole in your pocket. Here are some of the pros and cons of this bike.

Pros

Out of the box this exercise bike requires some assembly. It is fairly simple one though. You can set everything up in about half an hour.

The bike itself is really portable. It fits in a small closet and only weighs 50 lbs. You can be sure that taking this bike in and out the closet or moving it between rooms won't give you back ache. The build quality is really good. It feels sturdy and feels like it's going to last years.

Once you ride on it you can see smooth the bike is. The pedal movement is as smooth as the movement on more expensive exercise bike. The noise level will amaze you too. This bike simply whispers silently during the whole exercise. A noise-free exercise equipment such as this one is very beneficial when you live in a small apartment and don't want to wake up the neighbors when you exercise.

For a low-priced exercise equipment the monitor is pretty good. You can choose to fix it on scanning one mode only or continously scan all of them. The display is big enough and easy to read when you exercise in a well-lit room.

Cons

The biggest grief for this exercise bike is the seat. Unless you have a very thick bottom you would want to get yourself a pad. Another grief about the seat is that it is too high. Perhaps it's because Schwinn's engineers and testers are very tall people or maybe they made the wrong measurements during the manufacturing, who knows.

For some people the tension setting would be disappointing. The tension is rather weak so you may want to set it to the highest tension to get a real exercise.

And finally it's the monitor. There is no back light for it. If you exercise in a dim room it can be very hard to read the numbers.

Conclusion

The Schwinn 140 upright exercise bike is a value-for-money equipment. It's sturdy, durable and quiet. However if you are looking for a high resistance bike this is not it. The tension level is good enough for light exercise.
