The Schwinn 840 Treadmill is a reasonably priced option that will do everything you need a treadmill to do. It can be purchased for $800 from amazon.com and even shipped for free. It folds up flat so it can be rolled up to a wall to reduce the amount of space it takes up. I enjoy using my Schwinn because it feels solid and has lots of power. The bottom sits solidly on the floor and does not rock the way I have experienced with some less expensive treadmills. It has a 2.5 HP motor so it can change speed easily. Like most treadmills, it has a maximum speed for 10 MPH. The incline goes up to 10 percent.
The treadmill is quiet while it is running even though it has a large motor. This is nice if you want to watch TV or listen to music, or just not disturb other people in your house. Unlike many other treadmills, this one has a padded track and suspension deck. While running is known to be a high impact activity, these features reduce joint impact. Sometimes, I have problems with my knees after running a lot but have found the pain not to be so bad after using this treadmill for awhile.
The feature would also be good for old people because it would reduce the impact on their knees and hips. By holding onto the handgrips, the computer can read your heart rate so that you know if you are exercising in the proper zone for the results you wish to achieve. The computer is programmable to do many different things. There are 16 workout programs and 6 course profiles. You can set it to do things such as speed intervals and hills. Also, you can set a certain number of calories that you wish to burn and the treadmill will not turn off until achieve the goal.
The magazine rack is big and secure. Sometimes, I put my laptop on it while I'm walking so that I can watch a movie and have never worried about it falling off. A build-in fan in the console will keep you cool while you workout. The buttons are large and easy to press with sweaty fingers. The screen is large and lights up with bright blue numbers so it is easy to read while you are moving. Assembling the treadmill was pretty easy as all the tools were included and it only took about 15 minutes.
