Science Fair Projects for 7th Grade

Jason Budd
Science fairs can be a lot of fun, but sometimes choosing an actual project is far from it. Below are some interesting ideas.

Air Pollution

Pollution has been a hot topic, especially now. With concerns around the globe about a possible 'Global Warming', air pollution and content is one of many great science fair projects for 7th grade. Get a haze monitor that measures the sun's permeation through the atmosphere. Measure it at different times of the day, seasons, and areas of the city.

Wind Energy

As access to oil becomes a concern, alternative sources of energy are of great interest. Wind energy is becoming very popular and wind farms are popping up all over the place. A great science fair project for a 7th grader would be for the student to create his or her very own wind generator. The student can gain access to different types of motors and blades and try to charge batteries with them. An interesting opportunity for learning about electricity also presents itself.

Magnetic Fields

Magnetic fields are everywhere. Essentially every electrical device generates this type of field. Questions about magnetic fields and health oncerns can be answered. The student can use a magnetometer to measure the strength of magnetic fields generated by things around the house.

Energy Consumption

Houses use lots of energy. With lots of talk of going "Green", the student can come up with creative ways for every day people to measure the amount of resources they are using. This could be water, electricity, natural gas, or gasoline. Additionally, the student can come up with ways to reduce resource consumption.

Bridges

Bridges have always been a great choice for a science fair. An original spin can take the approach of Material Science Engineering. The student can design a bridge from research. That bridge design can be used to construct several bridges out of different materials and bonding agents. Experiments can be performed to determine which choice could bear the most weight or which had the most weight per dollar in materials.
