Scientists Research Temporary Global Warming Solution

Using Air Pollution as a Temporary Shield to Counter the Effects of Global Warming

JW
It seems as though some scientists have come up with a suggestion to help counter the effects global warming. As strange as it may seem the idea is to use air pollution to create a shield that would shade the earth which would in turn cool the planet. This idea was not conjured up by just anyone. Paul J. Crutzen, a Nobel Prize winner, and several other prestigious scientists came up with this proposal and announced it at the annual UN conference. Crutzen said that it was intended to shock the policymakers, and to hopefully get them to take a more affirmative action on the issue of global warming. Over the past century the global temperatures have increased by 1 degree Fahrenheit, and this proposal is supposed to help counter this climate change.

However, this sparked a great deal of interest, and so research is now being done to see if this can work without side effects. A US government climatologist, Tom Wigley, ran the scenarios in a computer model and said that if an estimated 10 million tons of sulfur were injected into the stratosphere then it would indeed cool the Earth for about a year. A lot of his results and numbers are based off the Mount Pinatubo volcanic eruption in 1991. Wigley said the eruption poured enough sulfur in the stratosphere that it cooled the Earth by approximately .9 degrees Fahrenheit for about a year. Also, NASA is in the process of doing research at the Ames Research Center to work on different proposals to help fight global warming.

Though this is not meant to be a long term solution, scientists are saying that it would provide a temporary shield until the political leaders could find a way to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels, which is the number one source of greenhouse gases. The chairman of the UN scientists agrees that we need to do all the research possible to come up with a solution, but he wants to be 100% sure there will be no side effects before he agrees to use air pollution as a temporary fix.

If agreed on this will be a radical change that I am sure will cause a lot of controversy throughout the world. A lot of people are not real concerned about global warming, due to the other issues we are currently facing, but it is indeed a problem that needs to be researched and acted upon.

Why thank you, but that doesn't solve the problem to Global Warming

Global warming is a government myth, dis-proven in numerous ways. Governments have latched on to it as an excuse to gain more totalitarian control over our lives

    Global warming is a myth!
The polution we produce won't make the cyclus go faster either... Please listen to EVERY scientist before making up your mind about global warning (conspiracy)

Global warming might be real for some, but i belive is just a myth. People can do anything to reduce fossil fuels, etheir way is just nature we can't stop this. Yeah their such a thing called global warming it comes once a year and it's called spring....So why waste money and go on crisis on basically doing their research.

    thank you!
    someone with a legitimate opinion!
yes, i agree. we need to do more to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
and, yeah i guarantee that the government is hiding a lot. the government is extremely corrupted, and they don't care about anything but money.

i like to save my EARTH.so try to reduce pollution.

i thinnk we need a comprehensive approach that is to enhance environmental heath in all countries. lets involve environmeentalist to the fight
