The true Scientologist believes that we are all trapped in this universe; that we used to be "free" and powerful but we have gone down a "dwindling spiral" of degradation, life after life, eventually, after trillions of years, becoming powerless and mired in suffering; that L. Ron Hubbard developed the only road out of this trap back to "real freedom" and power; that the Church of Scientology is the only valid source of this technology; and that we will only get this one chance to make it out.
Noble as that blurb may sound, true atosities are being committed. There are no saviors for the damned within their system, they are suffering alone and silently. It is told to these people that they may leave when they wish, but what most aren't aware of is leaving means the end of your world and life as you know it. Leaving is tantamount to death or exile from everything and everyone you know and love.
Those that leave, are indeed exiled. Considered a 'SP' or a 'Suppressive Person'. Someone that is not to be spoken with, in fear of in turn you also being rejected from the Community.
Scientology's prison system is a horrible things that is (ironically) straight out of a science fiction novel. A horror few truly can comprehend or know. A secret from within their organization, shielded away from the rest of the world.
Also from the Wikileaks article:
If someone really, really believes they have been trapped and degraded for trillions of years -- just the idea of that -- they will become desperate to escape. If they truly believe this idea, they would do almost anything to escape. And they do believe. And they really will do almost anything.
This is the power of the Church of Scientology. They hold the threat of denying Scientologists the "road out" over their heads all the time. Kicking someone out of the church and declaring them "Suppressive" is, in Scientologists' eyes, literally a "fate worse than death."
They say it far better than I have. It's hard to understand for most the true devotion one can have. This, taken with their beliefs on mental illness, and the consequences of the same this could be a boiling point for the individual's psyche. The final breaking point.
This truly is a horror straight out of a third world.
Another modern atrocity that must be fought against.
