Sci-Fi Drive-In Theater at Disney World

Restaurant Review

Heather Belle
This place is so much fun, and the burgers are some of the best that I've ever had. I find myself drooling on my laptop keyboard when I remember how awesome the food here was during our most recent trip! (June 2008)

As most other popular restaurants located in the Disney parks, this one requires a reservation. Reservations can be made up to 180 days out from your vacation, so make sure to call (407) WDW-DINE to get yourself on the list. Or, if you go back to the restaurant entrance on the day you're hoping to eat there, they may be able to fit you in. I've seen this happen multiple times, but I've always seen hundreds of people get turned away. It's just luck of the draw and whether you're there on a busy day or not; but, if you have any slight inclination that you may want to eat there, make a reservation. You can also call and cancel without being charged a cancellation fee.

This restaurant is themed like a 1950's drive-in theater. Once you enter the restaurant area, you're seated in a convertible car that faces a huge movie screen. Be prepared that if you have a small party, you're going to be seated in a car with other people. We were there on our honeymoon and ended up with a family of four in-front of us, but we were in the back and did not have any problems. While you're there, they play clips of old sci-fi movies on the screen. Don't expect to see an entire film; they're all just short clips - max 3-4 minutes long. But, still very entertaining to see what they thought the future was going be like in the 50's, and also a great place to remember your past if you were alive then!

Your food is served by a carhop, which always loves to joke around with you while you're there. There are sometimes police walking around; I've been several times and have only seen one of them though. That one time, I was given a (fake) ticket for driving with an open container (my water was sitting on my table area in the car.) The ticket was cute and a great keepsake!

This time, my husband and I ordered the pirate punch (from the kid's menu) as drinks. We were given cups and straws to take home with us, but more fun, his drink had a light-up Captain Hook and mine came with a light-up Tinkerbell. The drink was pretty inexpensive (around $6.00) when you take in to consideration that your child gets a light-up toy (exactly like the ones they sell for double the price during parades and night-time shows in the park.)

My husband and I both had a burger and fries. Amazing! Some of the best meat that I've ever had; I'm pretty picky about hamburgers as red meat can sometimes make me sick, but these were wonderful and cooked perfectly! We were given a sundae for dessert to celebrate our honeymoon; it was a typical chocolate-syrup-ice-cream-sundae, except it was covered in Mickey shaped sprinkles! Very cute! I'm sure this is the dessert that you can order for the kids, or yourself too!

We love this place and would recommend it to anyone. It's a great place for families, or just a couple if you're there by yourselves like we were. Fun atmosphere, and great food! Most kids have no idea what a drive-in-theater looks like, so it's also a little bit of a learning experience.

A must for anyone vacationing at Disney World!!

Thanks for the info. Makes me wish I were there now. You can bet the next time I'm visiting Disney I will be dining/driving at the Sci Fi Drive In. Sounds like a great combo good food and lots of fun.
