You do not need to be deformed or even be that old to have the unfortunate occurrence to be struck with spider veins. Pregnancy, heredity, or just plain standing in one position for a prolonged period of time may all lead to the invasion of varicose veins; these are unseemly, unsightly, and very often times can be quite painful.
"As we age obviously veins become more noticeable; in some cases even popping up on the face!" exclaims Dr. Raffi Dishakjian; a medical aesthetics, laser and vein doctor who treats exactly this. Dr. Dishakjian is also the medical director of Nu Vela Esthetica; an esthetics and laser vein center located in Porter Ranch, CA; so he is something of an informed individual.
Even though we all want the quick fix, Dr. Dishakjian urges patience in the face of these unsightly veins. They took a long time to get there; they are not going to go away overnight.
"Gradual improvement will be noticed," he says, "with many treated patients seeking 60-80% of the treated vessels resolved." You definitely should not go into any therapy without first having an in depth consultation with your doctor and finding out where your treatment fits in the scheme of things. Every individual is different and every persons reaction to and acceptance of the treatment is different.
A sclerosing agent is injected into your vein through a very small needle. The treatment can last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. Once the injection has taken place the solution replaces the blood in the vein which generates irritation; the body then begins the natural healing process and the healing begins. The veins will begin to decompose, shrink, and eventually disappear.
In addition to the seemingly natural healing properties that sclerotherapy invokes, another great fact is that there is no down time. The only warning immediately following treatment are that excessive standing and vigorous activity is not recommended for the first 24 to 48 hours.
